Artist Statement
Don H. Zimmerman
After my retirement from the University of California Santa Barbara after forty years of teaching, research and administration, I began to explore printmaking. Working mainly in the medium of polymer etching (a method employing UV sensitive polymer coated plates to create intaglio prints). Using my original photographs as a point of departure, my images are digitally manipulated to produce texture, line and value contrasts that utilize the expressive potential of the medium. My prints are limited edition, hand pulled prints. I combine my etchings with either digitally created color fields or hand coloring with translucent watercolor. I also work in the medium of collage on paper or board.
